TBH, that's what I'd envisioned for competitive play. The way it's been being done has kept me distant (If I commit, sooner or later I'll let the team down for RL reasons. If I try to "just be available" when someone can't make a tourney, there's no way I'll feel competent subbing into a team I've rarely or never practiced with).

Sounds like a blast! I haven't done it in a platoon, but I do much the same thing with my Locust and 100 octane fuel. ( and pray for Highway map  ). The last time, I ran out of ammunition before I died.
